DOMINCAN REPUBLIC MISSION TRIP UPDATE

Hi Ladies,

What a great year to take a mission trip to La Vega, Dominican Republic.  God had wonderful things planned and prepared for us.  We left the United States just days after the earthquake hit Haiti.  The Dominican is part of the same island as Haiti.  We made many calls to the Dominican and to missionaries in the area to make sure it was still safe to continue on with the mission trip.  Every report came back - "It is safe!  Go for it!!"

This is our third time to the Dominican Republic to work with Mission of Mercy and Centro Christian Eleizer with a group of ladies from the Northern New England Assembly of God.  The first mission trip we put up a commercial play ground, basketball hoops, and painted the sanctuary.  The second trip we added 4 new classrooms and painted them inside and out.  This time we added a second story with 4 more classrooms.  These classrooms are going to be used for the older kids to learn a trade.  One room is the computer lab which was able to be filled with computers.  One of the churches in our district was able to raise enough money to buy a few computer, but God multiplied the money and also the amount of computer the money could buy.  Now the Eleizer project has 11 computers that will teach the kids computing skills.  Yes!  isn’t God good and awesome!!!

Two other churches and a couple ladies came up with money to help buy sewing machines.  It is going to be exciting to see how many sewing machines we can get with $1068.  We are counting on God to multiply and do miracles with that money too.  The storage room for the new office for the director didn’t have any shelving.  We hired two men they build them for us and a couple of our ladies organized them with boxes and containers.  What a difference to be able to find materials and teaching tools to teach the kids the best possible.  Now the director can use her time to teach and organize the staff instead of trying to find things.   Two murals were done in the new rooms on the second story as well.   We can’t leave with out adding beauty and a woman’s touch.  Another thing we paid for while we were there was railing for the steps going to the second floor.  It was too dangerous not to have railings.  We hired a man to make rod iron railings.  We got to see one done before we left to go back to the United States.  We want the kids to be safe, they are part of our family and we love them all.  Every time we go to our Eleizer project we feel closer and more love for all the kids and staff.  There are wonderful teachers that help the kids grow in knowledge and love the kids too.  It is very evident to all.

We spent a day and half while we were in the DR doing home visits to our kid’s homes.  It is always amazing to see how each ones lives day by day.  The kids came to the Eleizer project 3 times while we were there.  We painted the inside of the church again and part of the outside to freshen it all up, plus painted the 4 new rooms.  It took 3 coats on fresh wood and newly plastered walls.  We only used 3 colors of paint throughout the whole church and classrooms making it very easy.  What a blessing that one coat is enough for all the places we had painted on previous trips to make everything fresh and new and still not take mega time or extra paint.   We decide to do new handprints with the kids in the church sanctuary.   It is always fun and exiting for the kids to see their hands as part of the church.  We have about 250 kids in our Eleizer project in La Vega.

One day we went and painted an Assembly of God church not too far away from our Eleizer project.   One of the missionaries in La Vega asked that we help this congregation.  We supplied the paint and did the work with some of their people.  The inside and outside all got painted.  What a change a few gallons of paint can make.   They also took us to where that church does a Mission of Mercy project for the kids in that area of the city. There are kids everywhere that need to be tutored to get ahead in life and most of all learn about Jesus and His love.

Beside the big highlight of setting up so many computers at our Eleizer center was the 2 service we got to do on Sunday.  We did a great AM service at Eleizer Church and in the afternoon we went to the ghettos and walked around.  It was one of the places we worked at last year to paint their church and 6  houses.  We did a service for those lovely people, but at the end the little girls from that church favored us with a beautiful worship dance. These little gals know how worship to touch God and our hearts.  What a wonderful day Sunday was for all of us in the Dominican Republic.

While we were in the Dominican Republic we were able to show the Book of Hope, “God Man” four different times.  It was wonderful for all to see the bible come alive with a big screen projector that we brought with us just to show them the great movie.   It was wonderful how Book of Hope made it that it would fit into their culture and daily life.  I had previously seen the English version too.  It had all of the same bible stories, but they changed the characters to look more Spanish and Dominican and the story line going through it to keep it interested had to do with soccer which is very big in the DR.  Everyone enjoyed it and it brought the bible alive.  After watching it 4 times I still can’t speak Spanish!!!!

La Vega and our project has become our second home.  We love the people, all the kids and the staff.  God has bless us to be a part of their lives and them to be part of ours.  You ask will we go again?  How can we not!  They are part of our family.

If you are interested in seeing picture of our whole team and what we did in the Dominican Republic this is the website: http://picasaweb.google.com/nnedmissiontrip09   Once you are on the web site click on a picture and many more pictures will show so you can view some or hundreds of them.  2010 mission trip and 2009 mission trip are all there.  Enjoy looking at our beautiful kids and see what God had done.  To God be the glory!

Blessings,

Bevie Jo Marquardt
