David Faris grew up in Christian Bible Church in Nashua, New Hampshire, where he was heavily involved in Bible Quiz as a teenager. Sharon (Dearing) Faris was raised at Glad Tidings Church in Bangor, Maine. Together they have been missionaries to Chad, Africa since 1996. They began their missionary career as part of an agreement between Wycliffe Bible Translators and Assemblies of God World Missions (AGWM). However, in 2008 they resigned from Wycliffe and were accepted as full-fledged AGWM missionaries.

They are working to return to Chad where they will continue their original work of Bible translation and language development work into one of the Chadian languages. In addition, they are trusting the Lord to help them to reach out through community development, and to start a Christian radio station and printshop in northern Chad. Because of this, their budget has more than doubled. As with all AGWM missionaries, they have a time limit in which they will need to raise their full support if they are to return to Chad in 2009.
